July 2015: Amazon Prime New Releases

If you’ve shelled out for an Amazon Prime subscription, then you’ve got some great new stuff to look forward to in July — several new movie and TV titles are hitting their Instant Video service. From old classics to new favorites, there’s something for everyone. Read on for our guide to the new Amazon Prime Instant Video selections coming in July.
July 1
48 Hrs.: Starring Eddie Murphy, Nick Nolte and Annette O’Toole. A hard-nosed cop reluctantly teams up with a wise-cracking criminal temporarily paroled to him, in order to track down a killer.
The Bad News Bears (1976): Starring Walter Matthau, Tatum O’Neal and Vic Morrow. An aging, down-on-his-luck ex-minor leaguer coaches a team of misfits in an ultra-competitive California little league.
The Brady Bunch Movie: Starring Shelley Long, Gary Cole and Christine Taylor. The original ‘70s T.V. family is now placed in the 1990s, where they’re even more square and out of place than ever.
Bulworth: Starring Warren Beatty, Halle Berry and Sean Astin. A suicidally disillusioned liberal politician puts a contract out on himself and takes the opportunity to be bluntly honest with his voters by affecting the rhythms and speech of hip-hop music and culture.
Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid: Starring Paul Newman, Robert Redford and Katharine Ross. Two Western bank/train robbers flee to Bolivia when the law gets too close.
The Butcher’s Wife: Starring Demi Moore, Jeff Daniels and George Dzundza. A clairvoyant woman believes she’s met the man of her dreams, but when she returns with him to his hometown, she discovers the real man of her dreams.
The Day the Earth Stood Still (2008): Starring Keanu Reeves, Jennifer Connelly and Kathy Bates. A remake of the 1951 classic sci-fi film about an alien visitor and his giant robot counterpart who visit Earth.
Dirty Dancing: Starring Jennifer Grey, Patrick Swayze and Jerry Orbach. Spending the summer in a holiday camp with her family, Frances “Baby” Houseman falls in love with the camp’s dance instructor Johnny Castle.
Downton Abbey Season 5: Starring Hugh Bonneville, Maggie Smith and Elizabeth McGovern. A chronicle of the lives of the Crawley family and their servants, beginning in the years leading up to World War I.
Dragonslayer: Starring Peter MacNicol, Caitlin Clarke and Ralph Richardson. A young wizarding apprentice is sent to kill a dragon which has been devouring girls from a nearby kingdom.
Drive Me Crazy: Starring Melissa Joan Hart, Adrian Grenier and Ali Larter. A high school girl must find a substitute date to escort her to the prom.
Flashdance: Starring Jennifer Beals, Michael Nouri and Lilia Skala. A Pittsburgh woman with two jobs as a welder and an exotic dancer wants to get into ballet school.
Friends and Lovers: Starring Stephen Baldwin, Danny Nucci and George Newbern. A group of twenty-somethings who have been friends for a decade gather for a ski vacation while dealing with their various problems.
Harlem Nights: Starring Eddie Murphy, Richard Pryor and Redd Foxx. The owner of a corrupt casino must deal with the dirty cops and nefarious gangsters who want to take him down.
Heaven Can Wait: Starring Warren Beatty, James Mason and Julie Christie. A Los Angeles Rams quarterback, accidentally taken away from his body by an overanxious angel before he was meant to die, returns to life in the body of a recently murdered millionaire.
Heidi: Starring Shirley Temple, Jean Hersholt and Arthur Treacher. A plucky little orphan girl gets dumped abruptly into her gruff, hermit grandfather’s care, then later gets retaken and delivered as a companion for an injured girl.
King Kong (2005): Starring Naomi Watts, Jack Black and Adrien Brody. In 1933 New York, an overly ambitious movie producer coerces his cast and hired ship crew to travel to mysterious Skull Island, where they encounter Kong, a giant ape who is immediately smitten with leading lady Ann Darrow.
Odd Couple: Starring Jack Lemmon, Walter Matthau and John Fiedler. Two friends try sharing an apartment, but their ideas of housekeeping and lifestyles are as different as night and day.
Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country: Starring William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy and DeForest Kelley. On the eve of retirement, Kirk and McCoy are charged with assassinating the Klingon High Chancellor and imprisoned. The Enterprise crew must help them escape to thwart a conspiracy aimed at sabotaging the last best hope for peace.
Stuart Saves His Family: Starring Al Franken, Laura San Giacomo and Vincent D’Onofrio. A self-help advocate struggles to put his dysfunctional family in its place.
Thumbelina: Starring Jodi Benson, Gary Imhoff and Gino Conforti. The tiny girl meets a fairy prince who saves her from the creatures of the woods.
UHF: Starring Weird Al Yankovic, Victoria Jackson and Kevin McCarthy. A local public station gets a new owner. The station becomes a hit, with all sorts of hilarious sight gags and wacky humor.
The Warriors: Starring Michael Beck, James Remar and Dorsey Wright. In 1979 a charismatic leader summons the street gangs of New York City in a bid to take it over. When he is killed, The Warriors are falsely blamed and now must fight their way home while every other gang is hunting them down to kill them.
Wayne’s World 2: Starring Mike Myers, Dana Carvey and Christopher Walken. The inseparable duo try to organize a rock concert while Wayne must fend off a record producer who has an eye for his girlfriend.
July 2
Glory: Starring Matthew Broderick, Denzel Washington and Cary Elwes. Robert Gould Shaw leads the US Civil War’s first all-black volunteer company, fighting prejudices of both his own Union army and the Confederates.
Underworld: Evolution: Starring Kate Beckinsale, Scott Speedman and Bill Nighy. Picking up directly from the previous film, vampire warrior Selene and the half werewolf Michael hunt for clues to reveal the history of their races and the war between them.
July 3
Gandhi: Starring Ben Kingsley, John Gielgud and Candice Bergen. The life of the lawyer who became the famed leader of the Indian revolts against the British rule through his philosophy of nonviolent protest.
Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb: Starring Peter Sellers, George C. Scott and Sterling Hayden. An insane general triggers a path to nuclear holocaust that a war room full of politicians and generals frantically try to stop.
July 5
Extant Season 2: Starring Halle Berry, Pierce Gagnon and Grace Gummer. An astronaut struggles to learn how she became pregnant while on a 13-month-long solo space mission.
July 10
The Expendables 3: Starring Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham and Jet Li. Barney augments his team with new blood for a personal battle: to take down Conrad Stonebanks, the Expendables co-founder and notorious arms trader who is hell bent on wiping out Barney and every single one of his associates.
July 11
Two Men in Town: Starring Forest Whitaker, Harvey Keitel and Ellen Burstyn. A Muslim ex-con forms a friendship with his parole officer.
July 16

Jim Norton: Contextually Inadequate: Comedian Jim Norton tackles the twisted state of the 21st century, including how modern technology affects everything from free speech to hooking up.
The Newsroom Season 1 and 2: Starring Jeff Daniels, Emily Mortimer and John Gallagher Jr. A newsroom undergoes some changes in its workings and morals as a new team is brought in, bringing unexpected results for its existing news anchor.
July 24
Hercules (2014): Starring Dwayne Johnson, John Hurt and Ian McShane. Having endured his legendary twelve labors, Hercules, the Greek demigod, has his life as a sword-for-hire tested when the King of Thrace and his daughter seek his aid in defeating a tyrannical warlord.
July 30
Behind the Candelabra: Starring Michael Douglas, Matt Damon and Rob Lowe. Based on the autobiographical novel, the tempestuous six-year relationship between Liberace and his (much younger) lover, Scott Thorson, is recounted.
Entourage All Seasons: Starring Adrian Grenier, Jeremy Piven and Kevin Connolly. Film star Vince Chase navigates the vapid terrain of Los Angeles with a close circle of friends and his trusty agent.
July 31
The Skeleton Twins: Starring Kristen Wiig, Bill Hader and Luke Wilson. Having both coincidentally cheated death on the same day, estranged twins reunite with the possibility of mending their relationship.
